About

Hello, my name is Charlotte. I created Hippolyta Press to bring together my love of design and my passion for myths and legends. I have a background in illustration and have always been passionate about art and design, in particular printmaking with its limitations and many quirks. I also have a long-standing interest in myths and legends. I love how they explain the unexplainable and reflect all kinds of human traits, both good and bad.

I came up with the concept of Hippolyta Press while my baby daughter was napping. I was on maternity leave from my 9-to-5 job that I was only doing to pay for life. I decided I didn't want to work for anyone else anymore. At that time, while my daughter was sleeping, I was reading lots of amazing retellings of classic myths and legends (still my genre of choice). My best friend and I always discuss the books we are reading and send cards to each other, and I wanted to send her a mythology-themed card but couldn't find one anywhere. So, I designed my own, and Hippolyta Press was born.

So, during naps and after bedtime, I drew, researched and developed Hippolyta Press.

Why Hippolyta Press?

I have found that, as with many things, women are vilified in myths, legends, and folklore, or are merely there to look pretty. I wanted a warrior to represent my brand as I leapt into the unknown, and who better than the Queen of the Amazons!

I want my designs to make you curious about the myths and characters they represent and inspire you to find out more and maybe have your own adventure.
