The Minotaur was a creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull, born from the union of Pasiphae, the queen of Crete, and a divine bull. King Minos of Crete commissioned the labyrinth to contain the Minotaur, where it was fed on human sacrifices. Theseus, a Greek hero, eventually slew the Minotaur with the help of Ariadne, Minos' daughter, who provided him with a ball of thread to navigate the labyrinth.
